2 days more and we'll be back in Bintulu, Sarawak and continue our study as new semester start! That's why we need to enjoy our not-left-much-holiday now.
Without any pre-book except once inquiry of the boat ticket to and fro the islands, we made our arrangement at 10am and set off at 11am from Jesselton Point Jetty. It's surprise to see our trip go smoothly though we made it very last minute of the day. Here's a tip when buying boat ticket: do feel free to inquiry price at different counters there to get the best price. All of the agents we found there were 'eagerly' offering us lower price, and after visiting 2 counters, we decided on RM40 per pax, including RM23 ticket, RM10 for snorkeling equipment (life jacket and mask), and RM7 for tax.
Just for your information, I'm a nerd and having shortsightedness with power 800 each eye of mine. Last time I snorkeled at Sapi and Manukan Island without a goggle, my glass or lens, I saw nothing but the shade of coral and the pattern of sunlight shone at the bottom. Isn't it sound tragic? I've learnt, and wore powered daily soft lens for this purpose. Hoho. Online articles warn people not to swim with their lens, while others commented it is totally okay with snorkeling. Just have to make sure the mask fit tightly on your face so that seawater won't get into eyes and causes contamination of the lens. Personally, I encountered no problem and just a little discomfort (I feel good in my glass and seldom wear lens unless I need to,) and when the water did get into my eyes (the mask is a bit loose on my small face), it didn't hurt as much as I imagined. Anyway, I took them off soon the trip ended, and my eyes feel okay now :)
We took boat to reach the Mamutik Island for about 15 minutes. We have fun on this haha. After settling down, we started snorkeling. Anyway the first thing I found underwater was rubbish...LOL. People need to raise their awareness on conservation of beach yo! At first I struggled to avoid breathing using nose as this loose the mask and water will get in and literally drown you LOL. I have to tell myself over and over again: close your lips tight and cover the mouth piece...close it tight...or the tube will soon filled with water and choke you...... Soon I found out steady breath is very important, this included not to gasp when saw crowded of fish or anything astonishing...otherwise you'll taste the saltiness of the seawater. Teehee. Eventually, I could being dragged and enjoyed the marine life. Surrounded by abundant of little transparent fish larvae and colorful fishes made me feel happy! :DD
Never a good swimmer, I became nervous when we crossed the first line, where lots of coral reef were found. I can't even manage to stand straight in the water by myself or controlling my direction. Each 'pile' (they did look like piles to me) of coral reefs have its own 'guardian fish', which they were larger in size and my instinct told me they were not that friendly. Some of the corals were super close to the surface, to us, and I really afraid that my legs might bumped into them. I don't want to kill a coral, nor bite by the guardian fish, nor having coral grow in my feet (if wounded by coral they may grow there, kind of reproduction adaption as I was told). I tried to keep my body horizontal. And then was when I saw the fish bite Tze Hong's legs when he swam across it. Well accurately is right after he tried to chase it away to make may for us. It was horrible though I wanted to laugh so hard. LOL. He released my hand and swam away from the fish, I kept calm and swam as fast as I could while meanwhile avoid the fish's attack. What a shame, gigiantic me afraid of the smaller fish >.<
Afterward we spent time leisurely on some snacks and toured around the island. Had so much fun! Some comments about the three islands from Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park I've been: Sapi, Manukan and Mamutik. Manukan have largest beach while Sapi and Mamutik are basically similar in every way. However, Manukan is dirties and the fish there bite (too), while Sapi is the most beautiful among the three. It is clean, the water is crystal clear and the corals there are real stunning (according to Tze Hong, as I saw nothing last time without my goggle). Sapi would still be my first choice. Strongly recommend all for having some nice times there! :D
