Selection of Chess Player for SUKMAB 2014
Hello everyone,
Today was such a memorable day!
Speaking of chess, I had been knowing nothing about it for my past 19 years. I was not particularly into any board game, too. Most Chinese can play Xiaoqi (the Chinese Chess) very well, but that is not me either. After all I just not like game that need to think...(>.<) instead I'm a big fans of Role Playing Game in PS/PC. :p
Last semester, I was getting closer with Tze Hong and he actually teach me how to play. I wished I could try more new things in my boring life, and I chose Chess. Why? Because Chess always give me impression of cool and pro. Just like those anime characters who is very good in Chess (my Ceil Phantomhive from Kuroshitsuji!) Feeling silly to admit it. LOL. Though some b*tches spread rumors that I started to play Chess for Tze Hong. Nah. By the way, Tze Hong achieved his first Champion of Johor Bahru when he was 18 years old.
Okay. Then started my training from last 6 months. From name of each piece, how they make move, how to castling, how to protect king, what is free piece, to predict opponent's next move, I learnt everything from zero. I was in blur at first, not actually getting use to the chess board and every piece on it. My couch said I was still exploring, and practices were what I exactly need. I need to 'feel' the chess board.
Since then, my only opponent was him. I bet you can imagine it. A beginner play with a rating 2000+ once-champion-of-JB, what I taste was real bitter and pain. I can never defeat him; sometimes I was unknowingly checkmated; yet I keep playing with him nevertheless. Frustratingly, resigning in game was what I will demand when I couldn't stand watching my pieces captured by him one by one, even I've tried my very best to defense them. Q...Q I kinda admire myself for not giving up till now after losing every single game.
And that's why I'm so looking forward for this selection, where I can play with others. LOL. I never ask Tze Hong to go easy on me just because I'm a beginner. And I believe playing with stronger player make you improve faster. Today is the day to see how much I improved! :D
For first round I versus Eunice, I lost. Giving free pieces away. Urghh! My first game of the day always not in very good status. We played for more than 80 mins. Wow. And finally she said I was a good player. yeay~~LOL. Second round I bye. Nooooo bye means win from no opponent. A bit cheating? /.\ Third round my opponent was Leeda, my coursemate, and I checkmated her unknowingly...She is a experienced player, I think she is too exhausted from playing with Baozhen, which they played for very long time too. After lunch break my fourth round versus junior 'Met', I won before she checkmated me. It was dangerous, for both of us missed chance to checkmate each other. LOL! And last round, with Vanessa the junior too, I won by using 4-step checkmate trick.
Okay. I knew I write so long. haha! Just want to say no pain no gain, all the endurance is finally paid off. Flashing back, I was so uncertain and think for like forever to make move; my thinking always snapped half way; always feel so helpless when free pieces are captured. But that was only 2-4 months ago, and now me myself can feel the changes. Thanks to my couch and I'm very happy to have a chance to play with different player. And I will still keep playing chess with him after this. :)
