Kuching Trip Day 1: Waterfront, Museums & Aquariums

Yo! Happy holiday and Hari Raya to all~ Beginning of writing travel journal means my boring holiday trapped in Bintulu campus started too. *Sign* Well before this, I did enjoyed my first 5 days holiday in Kuching, capital of Sarawak, adventurously and exhaustively.

For the very first day we took Airasia flight from Bintulu to Kuching with only RM39 (isn't that cheap? wahaha) that took time about 45mins. After settled down, we took tour around in Waterfront, the town area with maps and umbrella in our hands. It was almost 12pm, and my advice is not to walk under the sun in the noon —— the whole town assembles a huge furnace these day. *faint*

Speaking of the city, I really love the old-styled streets and shops. Although it could be a result of no developments have been carried out here these years, but these old signboards and designs are really hard to be found in elsewhere, especially my hometown, Selangor. These shops have been preserved well, so traditionally and never be overcome by large-scale franchiser hypermarket. Not only having high historical value, they make visitors (at least me,) feel like traveling via the time tunnel and back to the old times and live the history.

In Bau, one of the surprisingly well-preserved old street.

In Bau, I don't think they deliberately make these look old.

Back to old time in Bau.

Then come our first meal! Being trapped in Bintulu campus for so long of course need to enjoy some local foods...LOL. We had our lunch in Atap street (not sure if I spelled right), in a theater-looked alley. I assume it was a Chinese theater previously, based on its clear and obvious painted words. We ordered pork satay, laksa sarawak, kolo mee, mixed tofu soup and a fruit juice. All of them tasted nice especially the pork satay that I tried first time! :p

Mixed tofu soup

Pork satay!!

Laksa Sarawak, very similar to curry though~

The place we had our lunch :D

With full stomach we then took a visit to museums which located near to each other. However, we only visited 2 and an aquarium as other were under maintenance. Museum ethnology tells stories of Sarawak and her previous status as British's colony. Antique machines, mineral rocks (where antimony is the main production of Sarawak back then during British's colony) and specimens of animals were exhibited here. I was opened eyes by the raw form of mineral rocks i.e gold, limestone, manganese, granite that were dug from mines though. I know this sound silly but although these minerals seem familiar to me but in fact, I never seem them in unprocessed states. >.<

We both came to an agreement that this machine should be an antique printer...?

Antique wind vane!

Antique air-conditioner, so large in size and I'm freeze. Lol just kidding~ Okay okay only.

Sarawak-featured carvings in front of the museums.

After this is the aquarium! Although it' simple and small and most fishes can be found readily in ordinary aquarium, it's one of the most well-maintenance aquarium I ever visited. Water where fishes were kept was clear. :) I have my own private tour guide here, as Tze Hong is very expert in fishes, so I listened to stories of each species of fish when we passed one to another. :D

Statue at the entrance of aquarium.

Cute upside-down swimming catfish!

The water is crystal clear, this pure white fish swims elegantly inside.

Dolphin statue.

We then visited Plaza Merdeka when it rained heavily. Too bad it don't have cinema Q.Q That's it, first day ended. Get some good rest and our real adventure started next day!
